Baking Bread Healthy Eating Recipes Vegetarian

Rye and Spring Onion Bread

Following my rather successful recipe for Pumpkin and Sage Bread, I thought I’d bring you another bread recipe from Gail Duff’s Vegetarian Cookbook. Is there, in all honesty, anything quite as good as baking bread in one’s own home? Indeed, I urge you to forget the mass produced bread which is sold at a premium in supermarket and instead to begin baking your own bread when possible. The taste of a home-baked loaf is very difficult to replicate and the smell emanating from the oven will fragrance your house wonderfully.

Fresh Three-Bean Salad

According to this Neurvana Health home page, my last recipe was fairly rich in calories and it seemed only fair to give my body a rest from all the fat and carbohydrates and prepare something a little more forgiving. During our most recent food shop we picked up 3 large bags of dried pulses; pinto beans; kidney beans and borlotti beans. Naturally I jumped at the chance of doing something extremely healthy with such wonderful ingredients. This salad is exceedingly fresh and has a taste not dissimilar to a recipe for Tabbouleh I posted not long ago. It is perfect eaten on its own, as a snack, or as a side dish – perhaps it would do rather well paired with a Mexican main.

Tomato, Olive and Parsley Pasta

Olive Pasta

Some of the simplest and cheapest dishes one can make are pasta dishes. One reason for this is because pasta is so amazingly versatile. One can throw it together with all manner of things, probably because alone it doesn’t have a particularly strong taste, or a particularly individual texture. It merely provides a good body of carbohydrates for a sauce, which makes it an ideal food for here. Yet there have been very few pasta recipes posted on this blog, and I’m not quite sure why. As such, over the coming weeks I’ll seek to rectify that – after all everyone has at least some form of pasta in their cupboards, and one can pick up a 500g pack of spaghetti for a mere 41p.
