Easter Tiffin Cake

Since today is Easter Sunday I thought I’d simply wish you all a happy Easter and allow you all to look upon the wonderful creation that is my Easter cake. There really isn’t much to say regarding this creation, it’s made of copious amounts of chocolate and that’s all the information one needs. However, see if you can spot the little not-quite-so-secular Easter themed nod hidden within. Have a lovely day and don’t binge too much.

Mocha Marble Cake

It appears as though there has been a veritable dearth of dessert-centric recipes added to this blog in the past month. Though it is true that my taste for the savoury is far more prevalent than my sweet tooth, such an oversight shouldn’t go unchecked for too long. After all, the food blogging community appears to be primarily composed of the fairer sex and we all know how much you lot enjoy a jolly good cake or cookie – not that you or I would usually admit to such a slanderous remark being founded in truth. Anyway, it is clearly my place to apologies for my collective gender for the lack of frugal desserts – I’m truly sorry.

Chocolate is one of those ingredients that, every now and then, simply must feature in the life of any respectable person – not including those of you who, physically or medically, can’t ingest or digest it. It really is the height of decadence and as such is one of those entities, for I am loath to call it an ingredient, that will never become cliché, or over used. Simply put, chocolate is astounding and has been for centuries. Quite honestly, if you are not a fan of chocolate I’m a little unsure about what you’re playing at.

Flourless (Gluten Free) Chocolate Cake

Last Sunday my mum turned 50. Wait, is divulging such a statistic bad etiquette? I never know with these things, but I digress. Since she knows I’m attempting to save every penny possible, she asked me to bake her and her friends a delicious cake in lieu of a gift. Apparently it went down rather well; the slice I had certainly did. This is hardly surprising, since the label “gluten-free” suits chocolate so well. Indeed, I first discovered this after making my most recent batch of brownies. This must be because the lack of flour goes some way towards preserving one of the fundamental qualities of chocolate – its smoothness. As we all know, taste isn’t the only important consideration when buying chocolate; it should also be smooth and seductive to the tongue.

Chocolate Truffles Two-Ways

Who doesn’t love chocolate truffles? How can one fail to fall for their silky, yet devastating, texture? No offence to those of you who, for some reason, dislike these smooth balls of bliss, but I may find myself sorely tempted to call into question your sanity and/or reprimand your taste buds. Not only this, but truffles are the ultimate form of expression in food – one can truly make them one’s own by adding whatever flavour one desires, almost anything goes. Though most people don’t realise it, chocolate is one of those incredibly versatile ingredients that is only very rarely at odds with the flavour one chooses to couple it with. Such versatility also implies that they make the perfect gift, for if the generous party knows whether the receiver has a penchant for a certain fruit, drink, or something a little more adventurous, then that flavour can almost certainly be instilled within the confines of a truffle.
