Easter Tiffin Cake

Since today is Easter Sunday I thought I’d simply wish you all a happy Easter and allow you all to look upon the wonderful creation that is my Easter cake. There really isn’t much to say regarding this creation, it’s made of copious amounts of chocolate and that’s all the information one needs. However, see if you can spot the little not-quite-so-secular Easter themed nod hidden within. Have a lovely day and don’t binge too much.

Mocha Marble Cake

It appears as though there has been a veritable dearth of dessert-centric recipes added to this blog in the past month. Though it is true that my taste for the savoury is far more prevalent than my sweet tooth, such an oversight shouldn’t go unchecked for too long. After all, the food blogging community appears to be primarily composed of the fairer sex and we all know how much you lot enjoy a jolly good cake or cookie – not that you or I would usually admit to such a slanderous remark being founded in truth. Anyway, it is clearly my place to apologies for my collective gender for the lack of frugal desserts – I’m truly sorry.

Banana and Date Bread

As we all know, banana bread is one of those extremely useful recipes that most of us crack out when we wish to avoid waste. Indeed, for some unknown reason people often seem to be left, by the end of the week, with two or three rather brown and partially inedible bananas. It is as though they’ve read about their health benefits and have promptly forgotten their dislike for the unadulterated fruit. Still, this is a great way to use up those superfluous bananas that, in my opinion, renders the usual texture of the fruit bearable. In fact, perhaps one could go so far as to say that bananas rather improve the texture of cake, making it more dense and moist, thus avoiding in every way the process of drying-out.

Rock Cakes

Rock cakes are probably the biggest running joke of the baking world. As a result of their name they are assumed, mainly by children, to be extremely hard and rather inedible. However, there is a reason why they have become both popular and famous throughout the world; they are utterly delicious.

Seville Marmalade Cake

This week, Katherine and I took a long overdue holiday. We have spent the last five days amongst some of the most incredible scenery North Wales has to offer. If you like walking over snowy mountains, this place is for you. Not only is the landscape incredibly dramatic, but it is peppered with historic monuments, burial grounds, wells and even a bunker which I presume dates back to the Second World War. The sparsely populated county of Gwynedd, North Wales, is truly inspiring – we shall be returning, car under foot, to visit the fabled ‘Roman Steps’.
