Brown Butter Scrambled Eggs

Brown Butter Scrambled Eggs Recipe

Dedicating an entire post to a recipe for scrambled eggs may, at first, seem a little extravagant and not at all frugal. However, when you taste these decadent, silky eggs and realise just how much nutty flavour brown butter is able to instil in your breakfast, you’ll be glad that I have. The problem with this recipe is that once you’ve made it once, you’ll want to make it again and again – the syndrome, I believe, is called pringleitis – a dangerous case of not being able to stop “popping” once you’ve started. Terrible though this may seem, there are far more unfortunate curses in existence and you’ll soon come to terms with it and the spare tyre you have unwittingly thought it best to store around your midriff – healthy eating this is not.

Cheese and Onion Potato Bread

Cheese and Onion Potato Bread

It’s rather surprising that a recipe for Potato Bread hasn’t yet been featured here. I’ve long been a proponent of this frugal root vegetable, so this is a truly inexcusable oversight. Indeed, the entire concept is one that is incredibly appealing; it’s clear that this is one loaf of bread that is going to possess flavour in prodigious quantity, in addition to a moist, pleasurable texture. Happily, this is one recipe that doesn’t disappoint, not that my recipes tend to do so, and is the perfect accompaniment to any soup or casserole.

Garlic and Herb Flatbreads

Almost every culture and civilisation in the known world has a variety of flatbread it is able to call its own, in one way or another. Though this particular flatbread is of no particular origin, it draws inspiration from the idea of flatbread as a whole. It seems that the whole point of a flatbread is that you can mould them to be whatever is desired – this recipe for Garlic and Herb Flatbreads remains within that tradition.

Walnut Bread

Baking bread is one of those ironic acts that everyone wants to do, but very few actually go ahead with. Yet, despite the evident irony, the state of laziness in which we find ourselves is understandable; there is something magical about the smell and taste of freshly baked bread, hence the desire; yet the process itself can appear rather time consuming. Indeed, those of us who do occasionally succeed in baking a loaf of bread do so on days on which one has the luxury of being able to potter around the house. We all fall foul of such lethargy from time to time, myself included, so I shall try my utmost to instil within you an overwhelming compulsion to leaven on a regular basis. That is, assuming indolence isn’t the reason behind your lack of freshly baked bread.

Caramelised Onion Bread

One of the most attractive aspects of baking is that one can easily make use of a plethora of different ingredients. As such, my rediscovered penchant for savoury oven antics shall soon find itself with broadened horizons. After all, there’s no fun in baking exceedingly delicious bread, if it doesn’t have a personal and interesting twist. There’s nothing wrong with indulging in a little dull bread from time to time, but doing so is merely functional when compared with the eating of more complex loaves. Now, before you all rush for your collective soapbox, I ought really to further clarify my position. I’m not purporting the stance that bread which is both monochrome in both colour and flavour isn’t delicious, or fantastic, merely that a little extra is required to satisfy my intrigue. Granted, onion isn’t the most remarkable ingredient to employ in the baking of bread, but its flavour comes through magnificently.
